Here is a checklist of important services to look for when you are searching for an independent living, assisted living, or a personal care home for your family members.
Do you like the outward appearance?
As you tour the residence do you feel the decor is attractive and homelike?
Do you receive a warm greeting from the staff?
Are visits with your family members welcome at any time?
Are the staff members professional at all times?
Do the other residents seem to be appropriate house mates for you and your loved one?
Are you able to talk with the other residents about how they like living there?
Do the residents appear happy and comfortable?
Does the staff call the residents by name?
Does the staff interact warmly with the residents?
Is the community well designed for the residents needs?
Is the residence clean, free of odors, and appropriately heated and cooled?
Is there a written plan for the care of each resident?
Does the residence have a process for assessing the care of each resident?
Does the process include the resident, their family, and physician?
Are there different costs' for levels of care?
Does the residence meet local and state licensing requirements?
Does the residence have a clearly stated procedure for responding to a residents medical emergency?
These are just some of the things family members should look for when finding a residence for their family members.
